Dad and his girls
Last week, an 18-month-old little girl walked into a business meeting and instantly transported me back 25 years.
I was meeting with a friend and fellow business owner, and he brought his daughter along. The minute I saw her, I was back in the days when my three girls were that age.
They’re adults now.
A friend shared a piece with me years ago that popped back into my head the second I saw her. A few lines from it have stayed with me all these years:
“Just for this morning, I will let you choose what you want to wear, and smile and say how perfect it is.”
“Just for this afternoon, I won’t worry about what you are going to be when you grow up…”
“Just for this evening, I will hold you in my arms and tell you a story about how you were born and how much I love you.”
And then the line that hits differently now than it did back then:
“And when I kiss you goodnight, I will hold you a little tighter, a little longer. It is then that I will thank God for you, and ask Him for nothing, except one more day.”
Looking at this picture now… I’m not sure I understood back then just how quickly those years would pass.
